Springboard Danse
In June 2025, Ceci Sun participated in the highly selective, three-week contemporary dance residency Springboard Danse—held at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following a relocation partnership from Montréal. Founded and directed by former Juilliard faculty member Alexandra Wells, Springboard acts as a premier career incubator, uniting 120 elite international dancers with leading contemporary companies and choreographers.
Site-Specific Work: “Abyss”
During her residency, Sun was cast in ABYSS, an iterative and site-specific dance, sound, and lighting performance choreographed by the Pittsburgh-based interdisciplinary duo slowdanger (Anna Thompson and Taylor Knight). Staged as a public performance intervention beneath the concrete dome of the historic Smithfield-Liberty Parking Garage Rotunda, Abyss explored themes of physical labor, sonic vibration, and bodily presence in public, social gathering environments.
Repertoire Study: Maxine Doyle
Additionally, Sun worked closely under the guidance of rehearsal director Elizabeth “Izza” di Bonaventura to explore the physical theater and evocative repertory of legendary UK choreographer Maxine Doyle (Associate Director of Punchdrunk and co-director of Sleep No More). This intensive training explored states of physical tension, character building, and spatial theatricality.
