Résistance
Presented on November 9, 2025, by Synesthesia Spectrum and Making Space Bmore, Résistance is a collaborative performance and living installation conceived by visual artist Lucieya Li and composer/technologist Youngjun Leon Lee. The project represents a dialogue between physical movement, sonic poetics, and computational installation design, positioning contemporary choreography inside an active sensory habitat.
The Living Installation and Movement Concept
The performance occurs entirely within an interactive, generative visual installation built by Youngjun Leon Lee. Challenging traditional boundaries between performer and spectator, Résistance transforms the gallery space into a shared physical canvas where audiences, dancers, and visual arrays occupy the same proximity. Moving within this spatial architecture, Ceci Sun’s performance utilizes physical resistance, tension, and structural counterpoint to actively navigate and deform the real-time visual projections.
Live Orchestration and Acoustic Atmosphere
The performance features a raw, emotive acoustic backbone performed live by modern cellist Robert Karpay, playing an original composition by Youngjun Leon Lee. The live cello tracks drive the atmospheric depth of the performance space, operating in absolute lockstep with the visual installation and guiding the dynamic, intuitive shifts of Sun’s somatic choreography.
