Overview
Conceived, choreographed, and performed by Ceci Sun, Her Resolve is a deeply personal, multicultural contemporary dance tribute. Originally debuted at the Peabody BFA Dance Audition Showcase in January 2025, the piece was subsequently selected to be showcased in Los Angeles as part of the prestigious LUME Collective pre-show program at Stomping Ground L.A. on August 16–17, 2025.
Conceptual and Cultural Themes
Her Resolve explores the emotional and physical trajectory of resilience, honoring a mother’s personal journey through life’s complex transitions. Blending Eastern and Western movement philosophies, Sun incorporates fluid, calligraphic contemporary lines with sudden modern dynamic contrasts to express a state of profound determination. The somatic architecture of the solo emphasizes grounded strength and breath-centered movement, echoing the traditional values of Eastern endurance.
Acoustic Environment
The performance unfolds inside a sparse, highly atmospheric soundscape. The score features a layered mix of ambient electronic works, combining the tracks “Ephemen” by German electronic artist Arovane with “Glimt” by Norwegian ambient duo Pjusk. This stark, textured acoustic background provides a spacious landscape that elevates the physical vulnerability and quiet resolve of Sun’s performance.
