About

“I strive to create transformative dance experiences that blend diverse movement styles into cohesive, emotionally compelling narratives. Drawing from my multicultural background and training across contemporary, modern, ballet, commercial styles and traditional forms, I use dance as a medium to explore identity, connection, and the human spirit. My work aims to evoke deep emotions, sparking moments of self-reflection and shared understanding in both performers and audiences. By weaving together tradition and innovation, storytelling and philosophy, I seek to craft spaces where movement transcends boundaries, inspiring audiences to feel, question, and connect on a profoundly human level.”

Ceci Sun is a dance artist who explores transformation and self-discovery through movement. Her work focuses on themes of identity, connection, culture, and storytelling, deeply influenced by her multicultural background as an American-born Chinese. Drawing from a versatile foundation in commercial, jazz, hip hop, tap, and Chinese folk dance, Ceci integrates these styles into her choreographic practice to create dynamic, interdisciplinary work. Grounded in her upbringing with Eastern medical philosophy, she emphasizes body awareness, balance, and strength in her creations, seeking to foster both physical and emotional growth in her audiences.

Ceci’s artistic journey has led her to explore different avenues within dance. She has created works that fuse contemporary, modern, and ballet techniques with West African and other traditional forms, reflecting her diverse interests and curiosity. Her choreography often weaves dramatic elements and shock factors into storytelling, creating a visceral experience for the audience. Most recently, Ceci has been working on a piece that explores the intersections of memory and culture, delving into how one’s heritage can be both a source of strength and conflict. Additionally, her participation in various performances, including her most recent summer intensive in Amsterdam, has expanded her artistic perspective and allowed her to collaborate with dancers from around the world. These experiences continue to shape her evolving voice as an artist.

Ceci is currently pursuing her BFA in Dance at the Peabody Conservatory, where she has studied contemporary, modern, ballet, West African, and other dance forms. Throughout her time at Peabody, she has participated in numerous performances and intensives, refining her craft under the guidance of notable instructors and choreographers. She looks forward to a future where her work continues to connect people through movement—whether in teaching, choreography, or performance. Telling stories that are deeply personal yet universally relatable remains at the heart of her artistic vision.
